Experience
January 2021 - Present
Independent Consultant, LumeDEL
Currently working on an NPI project with a startup company (LumeDEL) to develop and release a line of laboratory LED light source products. Product design, documentation, sourcing, testing, and manufacture.
July 2021 - August 2022
Principal Hardware Engineer, Berkshire Grey
Hardware development lead for BG’s new High Density Vertical Storage Structure (HDVSS). Designed, tested and deployed modular storage shelving for BG’s HDVSS delivering on all requirements: lightweight, rigid, lock-in-place, low-cost, and fully installable on-site with “zero” fasteners or tools required.
June 2019 - January 2021
Product Team Lead, Alert Innovation
Alert Innovation is a start up company in the e-Grocery and Automated Warehouse industry. As the PTL for Structure Team I provided general management to a staff of 20 with an annual team budget over $2.5M. I led the team through the development and release a new Gen 3 structure realizing a 50% reduction in material cost from the previous two generations.
November 2014 - June 2019
Engineering & Operations Manager, Telsonic Solutions
In 2014 Telsonic Solutions was a Boston area start up division of Telsonic Ultrasonics in Switzerland. Telsonic Solutions is currently a world leader in copper and aluminum welding and can be found in the factories of tier 1 suppliers to the automotive industry. As the Engineering and Operations Manger I led a small but effective team of 10 staff members in the US and Mexico. We not only established and sustained a profitable business with Telsonics first product, TelsoSplice (wire splicing equipment), we also developed and launched a new wire to terminal welding product, the MPX. I also planned and oversaw the relocation of the business from a 5000sqft mill building in Newton, MA to a 12,000sqft facility in Billerica, MA in 2018.
March 2012- November 2014
Consultant/Business Owner, GD&T Development
As an independent product development consultant I worked with clients to develop products and bring them to market as well as support and build their business capabilities. My client list included, Rigaku Vacuum Products, Performance Motion Devices, Nutfield Technologies, New Hampshire Manufacturing Extension Partnership, Reliabotics, MicroSense, Labsphere, and Varioscale. I am also a co-inventor on US Patent 15/637,873, Dissipating heat from an electronic device in a protective housing.
April 2010 - March 2012
Team Lead, Cambridge Nanotech
In 2010 CNT was a start up company producing Atomic Layer Deposition processing equipment for the semiconductor and solar industries. CNT was purchased in 2012 and is currently a division of Veeco. At CNT I was the Team Lead for the development of the Aurora System, a first of its kind, Large Format ALD System. The Aurora was capable of processing flat substrate materials up to 1000mm X 1200mm for the solar panel industry. I led the project from start to finish resulting in the successful delivery and commissioning of two Aurora systems to the customer site in California as part of a fully automated solar panel manufacturing line installation.

Alert Innovation, Gen 3 Alphabot Structure Release
Product Team Lead for Structure. The product is a multi-million-dollar complex steel frame consisting of rails for mobile robots and storage for over 30,000 RFID identified SKU’s. Including ambient, chilled and frozen merchandise. The effort started in early 2019 and included construction of a full height working prototype for POC testing in August, release of Alpha system documentation in December, construction of an MPV lab system in January 2021, and trajectory of a customer location product launch in Q2 2021.
Cambridge Nanotech, Aurora System
NPI Team Lead. Led development of the Aurora® System from early market requirements to launch. A $1M new Large Format (1000X1000mm) ALD nano-coating system to the solar panel industry. I built the product specification from early “fuzzy” market needs and concepts and guided the product development to final launch, including ownership of the top level model, hands-on design of several subsystems, supplier and contract manufacturing oversight, and commissioning of three systems at a key customer pilot site.
Telsonic Solutions, MPX Terminal Welding System
Led the development of the new MPX Terminal Welding Machine and brought it to market launch. A copper and aluminum wire to terminal ultrasonic welding system for the automotive industry (no solder, no crimping). Owned the product definition from customer and market requirements, directly communicated with key customers and their use of the system. Built and commissioned first article systems at customer sites in Mexico.
Inspex, Eagle and Extreme Patterned Wafer Inspection Systems
I managed the technical specifications for two generations of Wafer Inspection Systems, the existing 200mm wafer platform (Eagle®) and the new 300mm wafer inspection product (Xtreme®). I worked directly with Marketing to create the roadmap for the two systems with a timeline to phase out the old system and phase in the new. Hands-on design of subsystems and release to production.
Jabsco WW, 233SL Dual Beam Searchlight
NPI Team Lead. Development of marine and recreational boating products that were sold through distribution centers to customers. I worked within a Stage Gate environment driven by VOC requirements received through a team of Product Managers. Products were highly driven by seasonal catalog sales with strict deadlines for market launches and cost competitiveness. Owned the project SOW and schedule as well as the product specifications. Worked with internal resources as well as contract firms to design, test and manufacture products.
MTI Research, R&D Mobotic Radar Scanner
Project Engineer. Designed and delivered a mobile radar scanning robot that automated a previously manual process (using a forklift) to position test hardware and execute a test sequence via a joystick controller in teach mode. Designed (mechanical and electrical), documented, released, built, tested, and commissioned the system.
NH Manufacturing Enterprise Partnership, GD&T ASME Y14.5 Instructor
GD&T Training Program. Created and published original copyrighted content (165 slides) for a one and two day training class for beginner and intermediate level users of ASME Y14.5. Created marketing materials for the training and taught the class on site including, lectures, demonstrations, hands-on exercises and content testing of students.
